Top Campsites in Southern California
Mike Elmore, a former US Air Force captain, holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in engineering management and leverages his education and 18 years of experience to lead Sun Mountain, LLC as president and CEO. Outside of work, Mike Elmore enjoys traveling and camping in numerous areas of the US, including Southern California.
Although Southern California is most often associated with beaches, camping enthusiasts visiting the area can find numerous opportunities to enjoy a few nights in a tent. The following are a few top camping sites in southern California:
- Leo Carrillo State Park: Consisting of over 130 campsites, Leo Carrillo State Park provides campers with easy access to the beach. The Malibu campsite is located roughly one hour and 20 minutes away from Los Angeles and features token-operated showers, numerous back-country paths, and is dog-friendly.
- Chula Vista Campground: Located in Los Padres National Forest, Chula Vista Campground is a walk-in camp with 12 sites. It is shaded by pine trees and, thanks to its location at the top at Mt. Pinos, provides visitors with a respite from southern California’s summer heat. Further, campers at this site can enjoy such activities as stargazing and mountain biking.
- El Capitan Canyon: This Santa Barbara camping site is perfect for individuals who want to enjoy the outdoors in something a little fancier than a tent. Tucked along El Capitan Creek, this campsite allows visitors to stay in yurts, rustic cabins, and canvas safari tents, all of which are furnished.

Bristol-Myers Squibb Donates $1.25 Million to Make-A-Wish
A leading voice in the infrastructure sector, Mike Elmore currently serves as the owner, principal, and chief executive officer of Sun Mountain, LLC, a company specializing in civil and energy infrastructure. Outside of his professional life, Mike Elmore supports numerous charitable organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation recently announced that it had received a sizable donation from Bristol-Myers Squibb. The pharmaceutical company donated $1.25 million to the charity to help fund its efforts to continue providing wishes to children suffering from cancer. Researchers have found that the happiness children experience when having their wishes fulfilled can have a positive impact on their physical and emotional well-being, which is why Make-A-Wish says funding from partners like Bristol-Myers Squibb is so vital.
The donation will be broken up into two separate grants totaling $1 million and $250,000 each. The $1 million portion of the funding will go to help fulfill wishes for 100 children suffering from cancer throughout America. The remainder will be used to help support medical outreach and educate health care professionals about the benefits that come from wish fulfillment.
